Have you had a nice end-of- the-year season?
Every year on December, there is a holiday that makes everyone happy and look forward to, it is ‘Christmas’!
Along with carols, colorfully decorated & beautiful Christmas trees can’t be left out to make a Christmas vibe.
But did you know that one of the kinds of the tree that is used to make Christmas trees is our native kind, Korean fir? Korean fir (registered as an ‘endangered species’ on IUCN) grows naturally in the barren environment on Mt. Halla and Mt. Jiri. But 70~80% of their habitats are damaged because of abnormal climate caused by global warming.
For this, Incheon Airport started a campaign to inform Korean fir’s crisis of extinction to the public and at the same time creating an environment where children, whom are very vulnerable to fine dust, can live along with trees. It is ‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign’.
‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign’ is a meaningful cultural event helping children grow safely and healthy against threatening environmental issue such as fine dust, and also contributing to protection of our endangered native tree by participation of the passengers.
And now, let’s look at the actual event scene of ‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign’.
‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign'
On last December 5th and 6th, ‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign with Incheon Airport’ took place in Millennium Hall of Incheon Airport Terminal 1! On this event, there were activities such as class for making a mobile made of Korean fir, distribution of eco-friendly coffee, and a donation ceremony 🙂
class for making a mobile made of Korean fir
Class for making a mobile made of Korean fir is a program that children can have a chance to make a mobile themselves and decorate it with message that wishes for their healthy growth with trees! They conveyed their warm heart with messages such as ‘Dear my friend, let’s grow well like a fresh tree’, ‘I hope fresh air like white snow would always be with you’. Introduction of Korean fir and warm messages for children! It was meaningful time that gave us smile and happiness^^
Distribution of eco-friendly coffee
Besides Class for making a mobile made of Korean fir, there was free distribution of barrister’s hand drip coffee with beans from foreign eco-friendly coffee plantation, too.
It was great time of introducing the environment of coffee farms to passengers, and let them rethink about coffee.
Donation ceremony for creating an eco-friendly classroom
On the last day of campaign, there was a ‘donation ceremony for creating an eco-friendly classroom’. Ceremony was for Incheon Airport to donate Korean fir tree with the warm messages from the class of making a Korean fir mobile. And along with the tree, promise to provide air purifying indoor forest for children to Incheon Boramae Children’s Center which is a child shelter in Incheon.
It was a story about ‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign’ event.
Due to the active and passionate participation of passengers, it was very meaningful time:)
On upcoming March, Incheon Airport is planning on planting Korean fir and setting up memorial stone with names of participants in ‘Baekdudaegan Mountain Range arboretum: Endangered species restoration forest’!
Incheon Airport wishes ‘Clean Forest for Happy Children Campaign’ become an opportunity for children to grow healthier through environmental issues such as fine dusts:) Thank you!
