Explore the curvy tunnel in Gossi Cave in Yeong-wol!

Gossi Cave
1117 Yeongwol-dong-ro, Kim Satgat-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do
The original name of the Gossi Cave in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do was Norigokseok Cave. After being exiled and killed by poison, this is the place where the spirit of Danjong (6th ruler of the Joseon Dynasty) is said to reside. Later, the family of scholar Ko Jong-won used the cave as a hideout during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, leading it to be renamed “Gossi Cave”. If you really look carefully, you’ll be able to see areas used for different purposes, like the living area and the area used to cook rice. 👀
Due to the narrow path and differing ceiling heights, the Gossi Cave is rated high in difficulty. To prevent injuries, you must wear a helmet given at the cave’s entrance ⛑️. You’ll feel like a legit cave explorer weaving your way deeper inside and climbing higher up. The stalactites (mineral formations hanging from the ceilings) hanging like curtains inside the Gossi Cave will stretch out before you with no end in sight!
