Indoor Jeju Island Travel to Visit during the Rainy Season

Posted by

Many people travel well into August, as it’s still considered summer vacation season. Jeju Island, Korea’s representative tourist destination and place of respite, is considered particularly popular. As the weather has been especially fickle lately, many people worry about typhoons or rain ruining their carefully–planned trips.

So today, Incheon Airport ✈ is going to recommend some indoor travel destinations that are unaffected by the rainy season for those that have trips to Jeju Island planned.🌴 We’ll let you know the sheltered hot spots where you can still enjoy Jeju, minus the humidity and falling rain.

‘Aqua Planet Jeju’, Experience Jeju Island’s Oceans from Indoors

When it comes to Jeju, we can’t leave out the ocean. There is a place where you can feel the atmosphere of the ocean 🌊 indoors. It’s “Aqua Planet Jeju”! Asia’s largest aquarium is home to a wide variety of animals, from fish considered aquarium regulars to exotic fish that only live in the Mekong, Amazon, and Yangtze rivers, sharks, sea turtles and penguins. Simply taking a look around can make you feel like you’re in the ocean!

And what’s especially special about this place?  Have you ever heard of the Water Circus? Ocean Arena is the only water circus in Korea where you can watch a talent show of cute sea lions and dolphins. Also, there are various programs that explain the animal ecosystem, including stories of penguins, seals, and otters. Make sure to pay a visit!

Korea’s First Haenyeo Dining Experience, ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’

Jeju Island is well known for making stomachs happy. 🍴 The next spot recommended by Incheon Airport is ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’, where there are culinary treats for both the eyes and mouth! Haenyeo is a special profession with a long history and reputation, including having been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’, you can have a meal consisting of fresh seafood collected by Haenyeos themselves from the ocean. While you enjoy your meal, a play and talk show revolving around the life of a haenyeo will be performed. You can even take in some media art which just adds to the entire experience.

Media Art performances are held three times every Thursday to Sunday, at 11:30, 14:00, and 17:30 at Haenyeo’s Kitchen’s Bukchon branch. Note that there is a limit of 14 people per session. Media art featuring 12 artists will also take your meal to another level.

At the main branch of Haenyeo’s Kitchen, at 12:00 and 17:00 every Thursday, you can watch actual haenyeos take part in a play called “Kitchen Story” and a talk show called “Haenyeo Story”! Why not enjoy a dining experience that goes beyond just food at ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’?

You can also design your own beer glass 🍺 by imprinting your favorite phrase or picture. Make matching glasses with a friend or significant other! You can also enjoy Jeju beer at the brewery PUB. ‘Yeomji Botanical Garden’, a Place You Can Enjoy Even on Jeju’s Rainy Days

The entire island of Jeju is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hence why it’d be a shame if rain got in the way of appreciating its natural beauty. Not to worry! You can see 1,300 different kinds of plants at Yeomiji Botanical Garden 💐, the largest greenhouse garden in the East!☺

Yeomiji means “beautiful land,” and just like its name suggests, it’s a place of beauty and grandeur. There are various trees and plants outdoors, reminiscent of a large forest, while the indoor exhibition hall also has more than 2,000 different kinds of plants. You’ll be able to enjoy the greenery of Jeju Island to your heart’s content.

The Yeomiji Botanical Garden consists of seven parts differentiated by climate and theme: mysterious garden, flower garden, water garden, cactus garden, tropical garden, tropical orchard, and a central hall. Aside from all the plants, this place is full of attractions like ponds and waterfalls, making it a great place to take some pretty pictures.😎
