When traveling by train, Koreans typically ride the KTX🚉, a high-speed railway train. There are also trains connecting certain areas, such as ITX-Cheongchoon, Saemaeul-ho, and Mugunghwa-ho, which travel at slower speeds. All trains can be booked at any train station or the Korail website.

There’s also a particularly special deal. KORAIL sells what’s called the Korail Pass, a pass that allows foreign travelers to ride unlimited train rides. This gets you on almost all the trains, including KTX trains, for a set period of time. The only exceptions are SRT and Metro trains. This is budget-friendly and handy when traveling by train to various areas! 🎫

Also, did you know you can eat simple meals on the train? There are bound to be instances when you leave early in the morning for a day trip. You can start your fun journey by filling your stomach while on the train. Before boarding, buy a quick bite at the train station! 1. Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do: Fueling the essence of Korean traditional culture!

Korea’s one-day train destination, Best 4! Where to for our first stop? Andong of Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is one of the cities where you can feel Korean traditional culture at its best. You can get to Andong Station in 2 hours from Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul. You can take the KTX-Eum train, which newly opened just last year.

In Andong, there is Hahoe Village, where the entire village is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village is filled with beautiful traditional Korean houses. Thanks to this, you can score nice photos 📷 simply taken on any street. Also, watching the 800-year-old Hahoe Mask Dance Drama Performance is a must! The performance is about praying for the well-being of the village and criticizing an unreasonable society. English, Chinese, and Japanese explanations are provided, so please make use of those services.

Visit Woryunggyo Bridge, a long bridge over the Nakdonggang River, and Nakgang Mulgil Park, a secret forest with a beautiful lake! There are many pretty cafes nearby, so you can enjoy a cup of tea while taking a walk in nature. Wolryunggyo Bridge is also famous for its night view. We recommend you wrap up your day trip here by drifting on the water in a yellow sailboat ⛵ or a moonboat just looking out at the water will be enough to melt away any fatigue from your trip!

2. Yeosu, Jeollanam-do: Delicious food against the beautiful sea!

Let’s head over to the oceanside city of Yeosu in Jeollanam-do, known to be a foodie’s paradise.  You can arrive at Yeosu Expo Station in just 3 hours from Yongsan Station in Seoul!

There are many places you can walk to that are near Yeosu Expo Station. First of all, there’s Aqua Planet Yeosu! 🐬 It is the second largest dome-shaped aquarium in the world. This place makes you feel like you’re in a tank! You can meet various marine life from all over the world. You can also enjoy a colorful installation art exhibition at the Museum of Colors on the first floor. Also, there is Odongdo Island, which is a combination of ocean and forest. 🌼 It’s the perfect place for a walk after a delicious lunch!

If you go further into the city, you’ll find Yi Sun-shin Square! You can see the Turtle Ship, a famous turtle-shaped battleship in Korean history. It is really close to the sea, so you can feel the local atmosphere of the Korean fishing village. There are hot cafes and restaurants nearby. In particular, you can enjoy gelato and baked goods made with traditional Korean ingredients while looking out at the open sea at Iyeosu Cream cafe!🍞 Yeosu is also famous for its wonderful night view, so don’t forget to stop by Dolsan Bridge at night!

3.  Daegu: From alleys full of retro feels to amusement parks!

Our third destination is Daegu! As it is one of the bigger cities, the transportation infrastructure is great. It’s a good place to go on a day trip without a car. If you take the KTX train, you can arrive in Daegu from Seoul within two hours!

There are so many theme parks to visit in Daegu! First, the red Ferris wheel that shines on Dongseong-ro in the center of Daegu! 🎡 It’s called Dongseono Spark. There are other attractions inside the building, so it’s good for indoor dates. It is also famous for its amusement park ⛲ called E-World. From sky drops that fall vertically from high heights to roller coasters, it’s full of thrilling rides, so be sure to include this stop in your trip.

In Daegu, there is also the Daegu Modern History Streets, which give a glimpse of the 20th century of Korea. This place creates a mysterious atmosphere featuring both Eastern and Western architecture in harmony!🏘 There is also a traditional market, Daegu Seomun Market, full of great restaurants nearby. You can hit up both spots while in the area. 🍚 There are many other places to visit in Daegu, so while a one-day trip is good, if you have the time,  we recommend you spend at least a couple of days here.

4. Chuncheon, Gangwon-do: 1 hour and 20 minutes from Seoul! Great for both activities and relaxation!

Where is the last train destination in Korea that we want to introduce? It is Chuncheon of Gangwon-do, which is very close to Seoul. If you take the ITX-Cheongchun train departing from Yongsan Station in Seoul, you can get to Chuncheon in an hour and 20 minutes. It’s recommended when you want to relax away from the bustle of a big city.

Chuncheon Foreign Tourism Taxi 🚖 is also in operation for foreigners. Starting from Chuncheon Station, you can freely look around famous tourist attractions in Chuncheon for 3 hours. This service is highly recommended when you haven’t had time to map out your travel course or when you want to so sightseeing without worrying about transportation. One of the popular stops is Soyanggang Skywalk! 🌉 From here, you can walk on the transparent glass floor, looking down at a river. The bridge is 156 meters long, so it’s sure to be a thrilling experience!

Chuncheon also has the longest cable car ride in Korea. The course 🚠 crosses Uiamho Lake and arrives at Samaksan Mountain. You can look down and see Chuncheon City and Gangsan in one glance. Samaksan Mountain boasts another spectacular view when you climb to the top. It’s especially great when clouds form under the top of the mountain!

In addition, take a picture in the flower garden while eating Chuncheon’s famous potato bread at the famous Cafe Potato Field! Then take a walk and relax at Nami Island and Jade Garden Arboretum 🍃!
