The outbreak occurred in Wuhan, China in December 2019 (as of February 7, 2020, total 24 confirmed cases are in Korea)
1. Symptoms
Symptoms are usually accompanied by fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing, and in fatal cases, respiratory failure and severe pneumonia can occur (symptoms are estimated to appear in 2 ~ 14 days after infection)
2. Cause
The exact origin of the Novel Coronavirus is currently under research. However, it is assumed that the coronavirus, which used to be parasitic in bats, was transmitted to humans through mutation while going through other wild animals as mid-hosts (Source: Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website)
3. Infection
It can be transmitted when the infected person’s saliva enters the eyes, nose or mouth directly through coughs and sneezes, or when eyes are rubbed with hands contaminated with the virus.
