The first thing anyone does when they get to the airport is check in. Even just a few years ago, travelers had to arrive early at the airport and wait in line to check in.

What is self check-in?

Incheon Airport has self check-in services for passengers to check-in and get their boarding pass by themselves using automated ticketing kiosks without having to wait in line to visit the check-in counter. There are two types of self check-in services.

You can check in when you arrive at the airport using automated kiosks or in advance via web/mobile. You can even visit your airline’s website or app when you check in via web/mobile!

Now, let’s delve into how to actually use the kiosks.

How to use self check-in in 3 minutes

Self check-in is easy even for first-timers! Scan your passport on the kiosk, select your seat, and print your boarding pass! Here are the step-by-step process.

1) Check flight and select airline

Check and select the airline of your flight.

2) Check prohibited items

Flammable items (e.g. lighters, matches, gasoline), explosives (e.g. dynamites, firecrackers), and hazardous substances (e.g. chlorine, bleach, poison) are prohibited, so make sure to check your baggage in advance.

3) Check booking details

Check your booking details, such as booking number, e-ticket number, membership number, passport, and boarding pass barcode.

4) Check passenger details and select seat

Check whether your personal information is correct. You can select and change your seat if you want to.

5) Print boarding pass

Print your boarding pass and check for correct details (e.g. flight number, seat).

Is Self check-in available only for some airlines?

Although convenient, self check-in services are not universally available. It varies depending on the airline and airport. Make sure to check that self check-in services are available for your airline.

While self check-in services are usually available 24 hours up to 1 hour before departure, it may also differ depending on the airline. Please also note that self check-in may be restricted when you visit a country that requires a visa, board a codeshare flight operated by 2 airlines, or if you travel while accompanying children!

What is self bag drop?

Now that you’ve used self check-in to get your boarding pass, what about your baggage? You can use self bag drop. Self bag drop is an automated baggage check-in system available at counter G after self check-in.

Scan your passport and boarding pass, then check your baggage. Then, you can print a baggage tag. Don’t forget to attach this tag to your baggage!

Make sure to follow all the steps in sequential order within the processing timeframe before it resets!

Oh, and make sure not to forget your baggage certificate. With the number on the printed certificate, you can check whether it is your baggage when you claim it at your destination. It will also help you easily find your baggage if it gets lost.
